We live WAY north (close to the 60) and our growing season is pretty short. This will be my very first year doing a garden. I have started tomatoes, and bell peppers at the end of Feb/beginning of March. I also started broccoli and cauliflower at…

Tori, Atta gal! I think some of the best educated children are the kids who learn from mom. I am very dedicated, but who better than a mother to teach their children what is needed to succeed in life. I believe a mother will: * never give up…

Garden Update from Missouri.

I planted 18 more cabbage plants, 12 brussel sprouts, 2 rhubarb plants and got some sweet corn, bush beans and okra planted. Now I need to find some popcorn and pole beans my regular place I get them from isn't carrying them this year.
I am pleased with our progress this year considering the late start due to rain. Now we desperately need a good rain so stuff will germinate, good chances today and tomorrow.
I hope everyone else is having lots of success in their planting as…

Garden Update from Missouri.

Well now I'm caught up and we really need and inch of rain, ready to start planting beans and corn. My transplants didn't look as good as in years past I hope they will be OK. They just didn't take off from seed like I thought they should have and we have kept them around a bit to long with all the wet weather we have had, hopefully they will pull out of it and be OK. We have chances of rain for the next several days so maybe well get some rain. Just like a farmer, you're either complaining… Continue

Garden Update from Missouri.

Hello all, well we received about 3/4 inch of rain over night which is good for what I have planted. Last night we planted 24 tomato plants 12 Super Beefsteaks (my favorite) and 12 Roma here at the house. I asked my wife how many more we had to plant at our farm and she laughed and said that was only about 1/4 of them, plenty to can and sell. I am caught up for now till it dries up and hopefully we can get some corn, green beans both pole and bush planted. I am caught up with my shop work for… Continue

Garden update.

Well I went to work on our lower gardens and of course the creek had washed out the crossing so I spent the past 4 hrs fixing that. Garden is just a tad damp so I will let it set today and hopefully work it tomorrow.
I am going to plant some other stuff this evening when the kids get home, peas, radishes and the like. I plant almost everything I can in raised beds. I use a hiller/furrow attachment that goes on my Troybilt tiller to make them and it works really good. Once my taters start to…
